Generalisation about characteristics of groups. These generalisations can have a positive or a negative connotation. (Stereotypes do not necessarily correspond to reality. It can be part of the truth, but is never the whole truth.) Stereotypes are merely descriptive. Prejudice/bias: attitudes towards members of social groups. → Prejudices aren’t merely descriptive, but also contain an attitude and can be explicit or implicit. Explicit means that people are aware of them. Implicit prejudices are attitudes of which people are not always aware. Because of the correlation between prejudice and attitude, it is much harder to overcome prejudice than to reason out stereotypes.
