Coined by Pierre Bourdieu, cultural capital encompasses the knowledge, skills, education and other cultural advantages inherent in a person’s cultural background that can be leveraged for social power and status. Recognizing and valuing student’s cultural capital enables educators to appreciate and integrate the diverse range of experiences and knowledge they bring to the educational environment.
